Uses

The computer in the other room

The desktop in the study, the media PC by the TV, the mini PC in a cupboard. Its screen, keyboard and mouse, from the laptop or phone already in your hand.

How it goes

  1. Two cables to that computer, and power to the box. HDMI carries its screen in. USB-C lets the box act as its keyboard and mouse.
  2. Onto your WiFi from your phone. Once, the first time. It remembers your network from then on.
  3. Open its page from anywhere in the house. Your laptop, your phone, any browser. Move your mouse and its cursor moves.
  4. Away from home, it works the same. Switch on Tailscale and the same page opens from an office or a phone on mobile data.

What matters here

  • The control page. The one page you use it from, with paste and an on-screen keyboard.
  • Keeps it awake. So the screen you walk over to look at has not gone to sleep.
  • Remote access. For the days you are not in the house at all.

Good to know

Remote desktop software has to be installed on a computer and kept running on it. KiteRelay is a keyboard, mouse and monitor to that computer instead, so there is nothing to install on it and nothing on it to keep updated.

That computer has to be switched on and running. KiteRelay shows its screen and drives its keyboard and mouse; it does not switch it on.

For a computer you own, or one you are authorised to manage.
